Monthly Hydrological Bulletin: June 2021

NBO Dept./Hydrolocal monitoring
Monday 2 August 2021 by administrateur

The month of June marks the starting of hydrological year in the Niger Basin. The commencement of the rainy season was timid, especially during the first decade of June, but the situation improved during the last decade of the month with a rise in flows over the entire basin as a result of pearly floods, to the rhythm of local rainfalls recorded.

The releases of the Sélingué Dam in Mali and Kainji Dam in Nigeria continues to support low flow at the upper Niger and Lower Niger, as well as the hydro-electricity power generation and agricultural activities.

The rapid decline of Kanji Dam water level experienced in the month of April has been stabilized with gentle drawdown which conforms with the year 2007 dam released during the same period.
