Monthly hydrological buletin. March 2016

NBA/IWRM2 - PMU

INTRODUCTION

Hydrological flow situation in the Niger basin during the month of March was characterized by a continued low flows in the Niger basin.

Reservoir water releases from Selingué Dam in Mali as well as Kainji and Jebba Dams in Nigeria is on process.

The flow analysis situation was carried out by dividing the basin into four sub-catchments also represented with reference gauging stations as follows: Upper Niger at Koulikoro (Mali), Inland Delta at Dire (Mali), Middle Niger in Niamey (Niger) and Lower Niger at Lokoja (Nigeria) as shown in figure 1.

Figures 2 to 5 show respectively, the comparative hydrographs for hydrological years 2015/2016, 2014/2015 and 2013/2014 as well as the five-year wet and the mean at the references stations.

Figures 6 and 7 show the evolution of the reservoir water level at Kainji Dam in Nigeria and Selingué Dam in Mali.

Tables 1 and 2 show the Flow Characteristics and the cumulative flow volume at referenced hydrometric network stations.

Data used for analysis are also from different hydrometric network stations monitored by IWRM-2 project in collaboration with National Hydrological Services of NBA Member Countries and Selingue, Kainji and Jebba dam management authorities.
